Sir,

With reference to your letter of the 20th ultimo,

No. 17724/10, I am directed to state that the Postmaster General has noted the decision of the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury with regard to the maintenance of the British Postal Agencies in China.

I am, however, to explain that it would be convenient if the arrangements to be adopted provisionally for the control of the Agencies in China could be applied to the Agency at Wei-hai-wei, The Postmaster General understands from a letter received from the Colonial Office that the Commissioner of Wei-hai-wei has been furnished with a copy of your letter; and the Commissioner will doubtless assume from it that the Imperial Post Office will supervise the working of the Agency in Wei-hai-wei from the 1st of January next. The Postmaster General hopes that their Lordships will see no objection to his requesting the Colonial Office to instruct the Commissioner that the Agency will continue to be supervised until further notice by the Postmaster General of Hong Kong.

The Secretary,

TREASURY.

I am,

(Signed)

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Matthew Nathan
